"Without Mister Trevor we’d probably no longer be together." Patricia is talking about the dog who wakes up her husband at night when his nightmares bring him back to the war in Afghanistan. Thanks to Mister, veteran Trevor’s marriage with Patricia was saved and he is able to be a father to his children again. In Buddy, Heddy Honigmann tells the story of six extraordinary dogs that are indispensable for their owners. They are specially trained to assist them in lives that aren’t always easy, but thanks to the incredible skills of their dogs, they are as independent as possible. For example, assistance dog Kaiko helps Erna with undressing and turns her over at night in her bed because she does not have the strength to do so alone. Utah is an unconditional friend for the autistic boy Zeb. She never rejects him, like the children in the neighborhood have done. Hans completely trusts in his great love, guide dog Missy. And the rebellious Annebel does not go anywhere without Kay, her comrade and 'nurse' who watches over her when pain gets overwhelming. Makker is already retired. For years, he brought the blind, stubborn Edith everywhere she needed to be. Now they are both old, but still inseparable.
