Hidden between a row of fishermen gutting fish, standing on a floor full of blood and intestines we find Tobias (9). In front of him is a big box filled with cod heads. With an almost frightening pace he slices and cuts the tongues off the heads, and put them on a big nail. In the northern part of Norway Tobias and many other children work as cod tongue cutters. They start at the age of 6, and can earn a lot of money during a winter season. This job has always been reserved for the kids, as long as the fishing industry has existed. This winter is going to be especially exciting for Tobias and his friends. His girlfriend Ylva and her friend will spend their winter vacation up North, to learn the art of cod tongue cutting. Normally they live in Oslo, far away from cod heads, sharp knives, fish blood and intestines, but now they hope to earn their own money just like Tobias and his friends. The girls are also eager to attend the The World Championship of cod tongue cutting. The child cutting the most tongues in two minutes becomes the new World Champion.
